Blocked Sewers FAQs

My drain is blocked - how long will it take to get it cleared?

The length of time it takes to unblock a drain will vary from job to job, depending on the size of the blockage. Once our engineers have inspected the site, we’ll be able to tell you the best course of action and give a better estimate of timing. Standard blockages usually take up to an hour to clear.

Will my insurance cover drains?

This depends heavily on your individual policy, but most standard home insurance doesn’t cover drains. However, repairs which are necessary because of subsidence, root intrusion and damage from vehicles are more likely to be covered. Insurance companies are increasingly strict with drain repair claims, being reluctant to pay out.

How can I keep my drains clean?

Being careful with what you put down your drains can go a long way to keeping them running smoothly. Pouring boiling water down the drain can help to flush through sludge and bacterial growth which can cause unpleasant odours. Occasionally using thick bleach or purpose-made drain cleaner can also help to keep things flowing smoothly.

I had planned to use 1st Call once and then use my own contractors, but the prices were good and they were very helpful so I decided to keep them!

I highly recommend 1st Call, they’re very reliable, prices are reasonable and they come out quickly.
